Chapter III · Philosophy

A quiet place where curiosity meets the night sky.

Novira Astro is only three weeks old, and we like it that way. There is something honest about a studio still learning the language of its own sky.

We publish astrology as a form of storytelling — not a set of promises. Our horoscopes, essays and podcasts are made to accompany reflection, spark curiosity, and turn an ordinary evening into an invitation to look up.

You will not find guarantees here. You will find carefully written pages, charts drawn by hand, and voices talking gently about moon phases, constellations and the small wonders of being alive under so many stars.

Understanding Moon Phases

8 min read

The moon has captivated humanity since the dawn of time. Its phases — from the dark new moon to the radiant full moon — are not merely astronomical events, but cosmic rhythms that influence the tides, the seasons, and according to astrology, our inner emotional landscape.

The lunar cycle spans approximately 29.5 days, moving through eight distinct phases: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter, and Balsamic Moon. Each phase carries its own energetic signature.

The New Moon is a time of beginnings — plant seeds of intention here. The Full Moon illuminates what has been growing, bringing clarity, culmination, and sometimes release. Working consciously with these cycles can bring a profound sense of alignment with the natural world.

The twelve signs of the zodiac form the foundational language of astrology. Each sign is a unique archetype — a constellation of traits, tendencies, and gifts shaped by its element (Fire, Earth, Air, or Water) and modality (Cardinal, Fixed, or Mutable).

Fire signs — Aries, Leo, Sagittarius — burn with passion, courage, and creative force. Earth signs — Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn — are grounded, practical, and deeply connected to the material world. Air signs — Gemini, Libra, Aquarius — live in the realm of ideas, communication, and social connection. Water signs — Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces — feel deeply, intuit profoundly, and navigate the emotional undercurrents of life.

Understanding your Sun sign is just the beginning. Your Moon sign reveals your emotional nature, your Rising sign shapes how others perceive you, and the full birth chart paints a rich, nuanced portrait of your soul.

Mercury Retrograde Explained

Mercury Retrograde Explained

10 min read

Few astrological events inspire as much collective anxiety as Mercury Retrograde. Three to four times per year, Mercury appears to move backward through the zodiac — an optical illusion caused by the relative speeds of Earth and Mercury in their orbits around the Sun.

In astrology, Mercury governs communication, technology, travel, and contracts. When it stations retrograde, these areas of life tend to become more prone to misunderstandings, delays, and technical glitches. Emails go astray, negotiations stall, and old conversations resurface.

Rather than dreading this period, consider it an invitation to slow down and review. The prefix "re" is your guide: revisit, reflect, revise, reconnect. Back up your data, read contracts carefully, and avoid launching major new projects. Mercury Retrograde is not a curse — it is a cosmic pause button.

Birth Chart Fundamentals

Your birth chart — also called a natal chart — is a map of the sky at the exact moment you were born. It is a circular diagram divided into twelve houses, each representing a different domain of life, with the planets placed within them according to their positions at your birth.

The chart is read through three primary lenses: the planets (what energies are at play), the signs (how those energies express themselves), and the houses (where in your life those energies manifest). The aspects — geometric angles between planets — reveal how these energies interact, harmoniously or with tension.

To calculate your birth chart, you need your date, time, and place of birth. The Ascendant, or Rising sign, is determined by the exact birth time and sets the orientation of the entire chart. Even a few minutes' difference can shift the Ascendant and alter the house placements significantly.

Astrology for Beginners

Beginning your journey with astrology can feel overwhelming — twelve signs, ten planets, twelve houses, and a web of aspects. But the beauty of astrology is that you can start simply and deepen your understanding gradually over a lifetime.

Start with the three pillars of your personal chart: your Sun sign (your core identity and life purpose), your Moon sign (your emotional nature and inner world), and your Rising sign (your outer persona and the lens through which you experience life). Together, these three form what astrologers call the "Big Three."

From there, explore the planets — each one governs a specific area of life. Venus speaks of love and beauty, Mars of drive and desire, Jupiter of expansion and luck, Saturn of discipline and karma. As you learn each planet's domain, the chart begins to tell a living story — your story, written in the stars.

Seasonal Celestial Events

Seasonal Celestial Events

7 min read

The astrological calendar is punctuated by powerful celestial events that mark the turning of seasons and the shifting of cosmic energies. Solstices, equinoxes, eclipses, and planetary ingresses each carry their own significance and offer opportunities for reflection and intention-setting.

The solstices — Summer and Winter — occur when the Sun reaches its northernmost or southernmost point, marking the longest and shortest days of the year. In astrology, they correspond to the Sun's entry into Cancer and Capricorn respectively. The equinoxes — Spring and Autumn — mark moments of balance, when day and night are equal, corresponding to the Sun's entry into Aries and Libra.

Eclipses are among the most potent events in the astrological calendar. Solar eclipses occur at New Moons when the Moon passes between Earth and Sun; lunar eclipses occur at Full Moons when Earth's shadow falls on the Moon. Both types tend to accelerate change and bring fated events into focus.
